Miloš Orson Štědroň - Rock
Premiere: ROXY club, November 4, 2014
David Holý - electroacoustic guitar
This piece is based on my composition Rock for 22 Strings that premiered on May 2014 in Washington, D.C. as part of the Year of Czech Music. Rock’n’roll is mainly represented by the guitar, and in this version the string quartet is expanded into a string orchestra. Rock’n’roll originated in blues, jazz, gospel, and country music, so I have used a variety of styles for each separate movement. My intention was not to create crossover but to utilize the power of rock rhythm and combine it with acoustic potential of electroacoustic guitar and strings. The composition’s string timbre runs from guitar virtuosity through classical music language to sounds recalling a bass guitar or percussion instruments.
PLEASE NOTE: you are listening to live recording from the premiere
