Petr Wajsar 8 Movements for a Fan
Premiere:
Vršovické Mana Theatre, November 12, 2012
Sophie Knittl – recitation
The small melodrama 8 Movements for a Fan was inspired by a
compilation of poems by the French dramatist and poet Paul Claudel
(1868 – 1955). The book of poems A Hundred Movements for a Fan is a
modern form of Japanese miniature poems called ‘haiku’ each
charged with individual philosophical messages. Each miniature
corresponds with a Japanese symbol and its melody forms the basis for
the musical material of this composition. The orchestration of this
piece is the same as Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s
Tale, with an enlarged percussion section.
