Slavomír Hořínka Magnificat
cantata for two Gregorian scholas, 25 musicians and liturgical spacePremiere:
St. Salvator Church, May 9, 2012
Tiburtina Ensemble, Barbora Sojková - artistic director
This composition was written as part of a project called Marianum. It was forever my dream to present a concert of contemporary music in honor of the Virgin Mary. It was originally planned for the St. Salvator Church in Prague, in whose twelve designated areas the interpreters moved. The performance included an object made of layered paper (dimensions 6x11m) by Magdalena Bartáková and was hung from the dome, penetrated by the light of the setting sun and during the concert used as a projection screen for a shadow play. Musically the composition is based on the principles of Gregorian chant; the main feature of the piece is a conscious reduction of means.
