Jan Dušek - A Child of the Ghetto
Premiere: Spanish Synagogue, October 10, 2011
Composing film music is always adventurous, I would say even more if it is a silent movie score. The directors of contemporary films usually have a clear idea what kind of music they want to hear. Whether it is a silent movie or not, the music can totally ruin it, give it a different meaning, or by connecting the music with the pictures, create a worthwhile, whole piece of art, and raise the viewer‘s emotional experience, so that it deserves the audience‘s attention. This was my aim when I composed for D. W. Griffith’s film A Child of the Ghetto from 1910. As to how well I have managed, I leave that up to you.
