Slavomír Hořínka - Lacrimosa
for baroque violin, koto, tam-tam, and strings
Premiere: church of Our Lady of Snows, June 7, 2010
Adéla Štajnochrová - baroque violin, Anna Fliegerová - koto (Slavomír Hořínka - tam-tam)
This work was inspired by the words of the Desert Fathers: „Let our eyes weep tears before we depart to where tears will burn our bodies.“ which I related to a passage in “Dies irae” called “Lacrimosa”. I understand weeping to be a gift without which there would be no real joy. The moment of mourning rips apart our hearts so that Jesus may enter. The whole composition is divided into short parts – „tears“ – juxtaposing different levels of contemplation. It as if these tears fill a well, and on the very bottom there glows a passage from „Et incarnatus est“ by J.D.Zelenka. Because the incarnation of God is the answer to all our laments and weeping.
