Michal Nejtek
(*1977)
was born in Litoměřice and graduated from the Teplice Conservatory (in piano) and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (in composition).
He composes for symphony and chamber ensembles as well as the stage (e.g., "Lamenti"). He has received commissions from a number of festivals,
such as Donaueschinger Musiktage, Warsaw Autumn, Klangspuren, and Prague Spring. He has collaborated with The Plastic People of the Universe
on many projects and has played piano and keyboards with groups such as NTS, Kollerband, Michal Pavlíček + Trio, and Eturnity. He also writes
incidental music, having collaborated with directors Arnošt Goldflam, Jiří Ornest, Jiří Havelka, Braňo Mazúch, Jiří Adámek, SKUTR, etc.
Nominated for an Alfred Radok Prize for his stage score Exit 89 (Archa Theatre, 2008), Nejtek is interested in jazz, alternative genres,
and classical music – anything original, genuine, and intense. He has taught at the Teplice Conservatoy and also at Jaroslav Ježek College,
and in 2014 he completed doctoral studies in composition at JAMU in Brno. He occasionally writes reviews for Harmonie magazine.
He often compares composition and performance to an adventurous stroll through the jungle, which is why he loves it.
