Michal Nejtek
(*1977)
was born in Litoměřice and graduated from the Teplice Conservatory (piano) and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (composition). He composes for symphony and chamber ensembles as well as theater projects (e.g. “Lamenti”). He has received commissions from the Donaueschinger Musiktage, Warsaw Autumn, and Klangspuren festivals. He has collaborated with The Plastic People of the Universe and has played piano and keyboards with groups such as AGON, Face of the Bass, NTS, and David Koller Band. He also writes incidental music (Arnošt Goldflam, Jiří Ornest, Jiří Havelka etc.). Nominated for an Alfred Radok Prize for his score to the stage production Exit 89 (Archa Theatre, 2008), he’s interested in jazz, alternative genres, and classical music – anything original, genuine, and intense. Having taught at the Teplice Conservatoy, he now teaches the history of jazz at Jaroslav Ježek College and occasionally writes reviews for Harmonie magazine. He often compares composition and performance to an adventurous stroll through the jungle, which is why he loves it.
