Miloš Orson Štědroň

(*1973)

Composer, pianist, musicologist, librettist, pedagogue, music columnist. Graduated from Conservatoire in Brno (piano and composition), Janacek Academy of Performing Arts (composition), Philosophical Faculty of Masaryk University (musicology), he is currently finishing his doctoral thesis at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (composition). He works as a teacher at the Conservatoire in Prague. He writes music of various genres and styles – alongside chamber and symphonic works he created for example an opera (Human Tragicomedy, National Theatre, 2003), melodrama and wrote for Iva Bittová. He likes voice and percussions that he abundantly employs in his compositions. He regularly creates special projects for theatre (with own texts and music), e.g Ivan Blatný Cabaret (Komedie Theatre 2007) that was nominated for Alfred Radok Award, musical Štěstí dam (Happiness of Ladies, DISK Theatre 2008) or singspiel Velký sešit (The Notebook, Na Prádle Theatre 2008). He composed music for theatre, among the latest for Don Juan, Mikveh (National Theatre 2008), Kaltesland (DISK Theatre 2007) or stage oratorium Jeanne d’Arc (2007). As a pianist and improviser, he has a passion for making peculiar creations, primarily when accompanying silent movies (Festival Stummfest.cz in Prague 2006, 2007). He received various prizes for his compositions.
