Tomáš Pálka - La Berceuse pour petite Julie
spatial composition for zheng, sheng, and ensemble
Premiere: National Monument Vítkov, September 13, 2010
Jan Chmelarčík – zheng & sheng
The moment of birth is so perfect and magical ... I am reminded of these lines from the poet Zdeněk Volf:
"I am dying / Out of your hand, Lord / As if children / were falling asleep off my palm..."
Sometimes it takes so little to see the perfect. Confucius comes with teaching: „Ignorance is the root of all evil.“ And Lao Tze comes with knowledge:
„Who knows does not speak. Who speaks does not know. This composition brings into the European context two traditional Chinese musical instruments:
zheng, a string instrument that symbolises the road, and sheng, a mouth-blown instrument symbolic of life. I wish Julinka fulfilment in her life
journey to knowledge.
PLEASE NOTE: you are listening to a live recording from the premiere
