Ondřej Štochl

(*1975)

began his studies at the Prague conservatoire, focusing on the viola and composition. With the latter he continued at the AMU music faculty under Marek Kopelent, and during this time he took part in a number of composition workshops, gaining much experience in the interpretation of contemporary music. Prominent genres of his writing are chamber and orchestral music, often using the voice and electronic techniques. Much of Štochl’s time is spent with the chamber group Konvergence, where he acts as the artistic director, composer and violist. His work has been a part of a number of festivals, and not only those concentrating on contemporary music - ENH Brno 2004, Forfest Kroměříž 2002, Mélos – Étos Bratislava 2003, Unerhörte Musik Berlin 2007, Prague Premieres 2008, Prague Spring 2009 and others. As a composer, Štochl represented the Czech Republic at the ISCM World music days 2007 in Hong-Kong and whilst leading such a busy composing career, Štochl also teaches at the Jan Deyl Conservatory and at the music school in Hostivar.
